How Search Engines Work | SEO Traffic Spider

One of the facts about search engines is that they utilize software programs known as bots or spiders that crawl the web and build their database. These spiders are sent to view and index pages which are later processed and retrieved from the database. If ranking on top of the search engine results pages (SERPs) is crucial for you, then it is important you understand the basics of creating a search engine friendly website.

Below it is explained in detail as to how a search engine works.

Crawling
Firstly, search engines crawl the web to gather information and build their database. This is done by an automated software called a search engine crawler or spider or a bot. These spiders crawl through a site and look at the content (mainly text) to know what the site is about and then start collecting, parsing and storing the data so that it can be easily be retrieved from its database.

However, since there are over billion pages on the web, it is practically impossible for a spider to revisit a site on a daily basis only to see if a new page has been added or an existing page has gone through any modification. Many times the spider may not visit your website for a month or more also, therefore, the true impact of SEO efforts cannot be known immediately.

It is also good to know that search engines are mainly text driven and are oblivious to images, sounds, flash movies, javascript, frames, directories, and similar stuff. Therefore having lots of these on your website may not be very helpful from the SEO point of view as these will not be crawled and indexed for further processing.

Search Engine Indexing
Once a page is crawled, the next step involves indexing the content. This process entails finding those words that can best describe the webpage content and then assigning the webpage to specific keywords. The indexed page is then stored in the huge database for retrieval later. At times, the search engine may not be able to correctly identify the meaning of the page and in such a case optimization of the page can help it classify it rightly and achieve a better ranking for you.

Processing
This is done when a user enters a search query – in simple terms, the search engine analyses the information it has indexed in relation to the search request. Since there will be millions of pages containing the same search term, the search engine calculates the relevance of each page in its database to the search query.

The relevancy of a page is calculated based on various algorithms. These algorithms assign different weights for general aspects like Meta Tags, Keyword Density, and Links. However, one basic truth that you need to know is that all major search engines regularly change their algorithms and if you want to continue to appear on the top of the search results, you need to keep your pages up to date. Also, it would be a wise decision to think about SEO to rank on the top and also gain an edge over your competitors.

Retrieving
This is the last step in the process where the search engine retrieves the results, that is, it throws up all the relevant results before the user. The uses can see a vast pool of information related to their search query.

There may be questions regarding how differently each search engine functions. However, one basic thing that you need to know is that there are differences in the manner various search engines function but at the end of the day they all perform three fundamental tasks:

* Searching the Internet based on the search query entered by the user.
* Maintaining an index of all the information that gather from various pages.
* Permit users to search for words available in that index.

4. Appearance of your listing to local pages

Local SEO is now popularly used by so many small to medium sized local businesses to target their clients through the use of online marketing. It has helped a lot of local companies to compete in the same page with known and large companies in the area by taking full advantage of the Internet.

Many local businesses are still weighing if SEO is right for them or not. Some are even hesitant that SEO is not what they need since they are just small companies focusing on local business. But on the other hand, web presence is proved equally important to even small and local operating businesses.

But for first time marketers who are not so familiar with local SEO, they get a lot of confusing tactics. For one, when looking at search engine results, you have to take note that Google has a lot of variations. It has search engines for international viewers and also search engine results per country. There are Google.com, Google.ph, Google.uk and so on.

If you have videos on your website, separate these videos on a different page from your web contents. It is also good that you make use of the keywords when you are describing your videos.

It is also essential that you provide and hire a SEO specialist for the task in order to check upon the domain and website set-up. Again, Google checks your domain to determine where your site will be placed and index in its pages. If your site is a US site, make sure your host is a US site also. Google checks the IP of hosting sites and if the IP and your website location are different, Google may list you in the com list. Now, some would-be clients who read those words might automatically be taken aback by this notion. After all, we have all been repeatedly told that the client is always right, and writing SEO articles for clients should be no exception to that rule. The problem is that SEO articles for clients who select odd keyword groupings often end up being difficult to read, and thus not always representative of the best work that these writers are capable of producing. The end result is usually a disappointed customer.

After exploring the finest sources and communicating with popular SEO experts, I have realized that organic SEO is the best way to sustain a small but focused scope. The following is the list of 7 SEO Google tips that I found necessary for small businesses to generate results and I hope this list helps the new and inexperienced businesses that are looking for top SEO News.

Make a site that is easy to load Now that Google has initiated speed into the search engine ranking algorithm, its time to make sure that your website is easy to load. By improving your website’s speed you also improve customer experience, which helps in converting your visitor into customer. Use tools such as YSlow or Web Page Analyzer to check out the problem behind slow speed. Make a site that is SEO Google friendly and easy to load so that you do not make users wait to purchase your products.

Optimize for local search Going local is the most beneficial technique for small business enterprises. Around 70% local consumers use Google SEO local listings to search information about the nearby companies. Verify your business on the local listings such as Yahoo Local, Bing Local or Google Places to get maximum benefits.
